ALBUQUERQUE TO TAOS ROUTE
Approximate drive time: 2½ hours
Take I-25 north toward Santa Fe. Take exit 276B for Highway 599, the Santa Fe Bypass and Veteran's Memorial Highway. This will take you around all the Santa Fe traffic, saving at least 15 minutes. Take the Espanola/Taos exit and continue north on Highway 285/84. In Espanola stay on the main road. Highway 285 and 84 will head northwest. The road you are on will become Highway 68. When you enter Taos, the Highway becomes the main road through town.
DURANGO, COLORADO TO TAOS ROUTE
Approximate drive time 4½ hours
Take Highway 160 to Highway 84 east, crossing into New Mexico near the Jicarilla Apache reservation. At Tierra Amarilla, go east on Highway 64. About three miles north of Taos, at the intersection of Highways 64, 522 and 150, turn right (south) on Highway 64. This becomes the main road through Taos.
DENVER/COLORADO SPRINGS TO TAOS ROUTE
Approximate drive time from Denver: 5½ hours. From Colorado Springs: 4½ hours. From Pueblo: 3 hours.
Take I-25 south toward Pueblo. South of Pueblo, take the Walsenburg exit which puts you on Colorado Highway 160. At Fort Garland, turn south (left) at the stop sign onto Highway 159. Travel through San Luis and then cross into New Mexico just north of Costilla. The Highway becomes New Mexico 522. Three miles north of Taos at the intersection of Highways 64, 522, and 150, continue straight. This becomes the main road through Taos. This way is about 45 minutes faster than I-25 to Raton and then Highway 64 to Taos.
